Hand thrown earthenware pottery in soft earth colours. Pottery painted with vibrant ultramarine and turquoise with fish or cherry motifs. These are some of the pottery that John Swan makes and Gemma decorates. John is a highly experienced potter specializing in hand thrown earthenware, both in terracotta and white clay, making an extensive range of domestic functional ware, from mugs and bowls to casseroles and bread crocks. John is also known for his thrown rhubarb forcers and replica Victorian flower pots, all fired to a higher temperature than usual to withstand the British weather and are frost proof. Gemma is an artist known for her botanical paintings (having twice received R.H.S silver-gilt medals in 2000 and 2006), as well as still-life and landscapes. Gemma also decorates some of John’s pottery, notably in rich blues with fish and cherry motifs or little harbour scenes. Their combined skills serve to create a broad range of pottery and paintings to suit many tastes. Commissions are undertaken too.
